1. 研究目的与意义

For a number of reasons, Moll Flanders is a tragic story about an underprivileged girl who conceals her actual identity in order to survive. At first, she felt driven to follow a wicked path because of the demands of life and cultural pressure. In the end, she voiced tremendous mourning for her actions in the past for the rest of her life. This essay will analyse the trauma inflicted on the heroine by her family, poverty, and several failed marriages, as well as her tragic experience of attempting but ultimately failing to recover from these traumas, demonstrating her tragic life through the lens of Herman''s trauma theory and patriarchal society. It is the purpose of this essay to go into the heroine''s traumatic experiences and the chaos of British society at the time of the novel''s publication to analyse her traumatic experiences and the morbid reaction to trauma that she has had throughout her trauma recovery.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

Research content: This essay is divided into 2 sections: an introduction to trauma theory and an examination of the roots of the heroine''s trauma, her post-traumatic symptoms, and her numerous trauma recovery activities. The paper''s research focus is on analyzing the elements of a trauma theory in order to analyze the heroine''s drift from place to place and her life, which is full of change. Such as the trauma of being born without a mother''s care and protection, of experiencing multiple failed and absurd marriages, and the trauma of being caught in prison after being forced to commit crimes due to poverty. With the help of the novel''s precise description, to aid in the analysis of the heroine''s many moods, including mental and bodily pathological symptoms, Finally, analyze the heroine''s recovery from these traumas, paying particular attention to the techniques used, the personnel relationships involved, and the end outcome. Simultaneously, with the backdrop of a patriarchal culture, the heroine Moll eventually succumbs to corruption, becoming hypocritical and manipulative. While she eventually confessed her sins during her exile, her trauma was not fundamentally healed. This provides some consolation, but it also demonstrates that the social chaos of the time period was the primary cause of Moll''s unfortunate existence.

The key issue to be solved:This paper aims to explain the roots, symptoms, and efforts at recovery from trauma at various times in the heroine’s life via an analysis of the trauma induced by numerous previous marriages. The objective is to delve deeply into the heroine''s terrible life and the instability that existed in British society at the time.
